Jessy Cardenas Ms. Lehmann English 1-3 15 March 2019 We recently watched a play titled As You Like It, written by William Shakespeare and performed by a group called Shakespearience. This show wasn’t my favorite because I felt like they tried a little to hard to make the crowd laugh, and it didn’t work too well. The rest of my opinions will be in the following paragraphs. The first topic is based on their music choices. Their music was one of the best parts about the play; it gives a nostalgic vibe to this play. The music choices were really good in terms of knowing what the appropriate music for the mood and tone was. The actors were very talented, but it felt as if not all of them had charm to their character. The best actor was easily Evan; he added a type of depth to the character that no one else had. Also, the chemistry that he had with the rest of the cast was amazing, as if he had known them for longer. The best part of the whole play was when the bell in the school rang and they acted as if they could hear it echo through the forest, which was extremely cleaver. The play did come with its fair share of overly convoluted story that didn’t make sense at certain times because of the lack of contents that was put into the background and the story telling. I liked the choice to make it set in the 80’s. it tried to make a confusing story more relatable. I believe it didn’t work as well as it could have because they didn’t give enough time to characters, and they tried to tackle a big story with a cast of six. I n conclusion, the play As You Like It was a confusing story with an interesting plot, but not the right execution. I personally didn’t like it as much as I should have because of the confusing story and the lack of character depth. The play wasn’t the best, but it had its moments, which made this play watchable but confusing.
